Kylie's Palate Fistula Closure-12/31/07-8am

WHAT A NEW YEAR!!! First we had Kylie's pre-op appt. 12/28/07(Fri)@ Shands Craniofacial Clinic. The whole time she was telling everyone she was having surgery and the doctor was going to be fixing her mouth. Then after the appt. when we said ok its time to leave she threw a fit, Im talking about SCREAMING and the security guard even asked us if everything was ok. We said our daughter just wanted to have her surgery today and she was disappointed when we said we had to go, we told her that in 3 more days the doctor will fix your mouth, ok. On 12/31/07 @ 6am we were at Shands Hospital and they took us in right away. She went in for her surgery at 7:50am and then the doctor said he was going to use aladerm(cadaver skin with all cells removed) to close the fistulas. We were expecting to have to baby the daylights out of her. She was out of surgery and in recovery at 9:50am. She came out groggy for about 10 min and asking for crackers and juice, knowing she couldn't have crackers, we got her a drink. We had to wait about 30 minutes for her room to be ready, and she was already asking for her socks, clothes & shoes, to get down, to go to Nana's, to go home... and then they took us up to her room. She had a room all to herself, as it was pretty much a ghost town being a holiday. They brought her lunch(Bowl of SpaghettiO's, Bowl of peaches, Piece of chocolate cream pie, and a cup of jello and gatorade) - she at it all! She did not have a problem eating or drinking and was a very happy patient. She was talking to the nurses and being a real trooper when they would hook up her anti-biotics and give her pain medicine. Anyways, we celebrated the New Year in the hospital, hopefully this closure will be a great start to 2008!!! We are very pleased to say also that after a couple days of flushing out all the blood, her mouth looks awesome. Thanks Dr. Seagle
